Why AGEnts of Movement exists

More than a class
on the schedule.

Too many older adult movement programs follow a familiar formula. The people leading them may care deeply, yet lack the tools, resources, and support to try something different.

Staff education often focuses on what to teach: which exercises to include, what to avoid, and how to adjust the challenge. Those skills matter. So does the experience of the person taking part.

Does someone feel seen? Are they discovering what they’re capable of? Is there space for fun, friendship, and working through fears about movement or falling?

These are the experiences people look forward to, tell their friends about, and want to return to. AOM gives movement leaders practical resources to build those experiences—and helps organizational leaders equip their teams to do the same.

The perspective behind the practice

See the person.
Expand the possibilities.

We can’t design meaningful movement experiences without a human approach. People need to know they matter, their experience counts, and someone sees what they’re capable of. As movement leaders, we can help people build confidence, work through fear, continue the activities they love, and make friends—within the experience of a single session.

  • Ability before assumptions.See the person’s abilities, interests, and possibilities. Recognize what someone can do and what matters to them.
  • Choice creates ownership.Offer meaningful options and appropriate challenge. Help people build confidence and have a say in their movement experience.
  • Belonging is part of the experience.Make room for fun, friendship, and contribution. Help people feel noticed, valued, and part of the group.

Erin Eleu, founder of AGEnts of Movement

Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Erin.

I’m Erin Eleu, an educator, movement instructor, and founder of AGEnts of Movement. My background in kinesiology and work with older adults have shaped a simple belief: the way we lead movement can change how people experience aging.

I created AOM because people who lead movement deserve support with more than exercise selection. Through my book, podcast, and newsletter, I share ideas for everyday practice. Through training and consulting, I help gym owners and organizational leaders equip their teams to create experiences where older adults feel seen, discover possibility, connect with others, and want to return.

I’ve presented for the International Council on Active Aging, American Council on Exercise, Medical Fitness Association, and Wisconsin Institute of Healthy Aging. My writing has appeared in publications from the American Society on Aging, the Journal on Active Aging, and Next Avenue.

I’m a recipient of the Mather Institute’s 2025 Promising Practices Award, recognizing innovative contributions to the aging field.
